National Supports Broker Network
Our History and Where We Are Today
The National Supports Broker Network (NSBN) is housed within the Alliance for Citizen Directed Supports. We were created to strengthen the professional role of Supports Brokers across the country.
NSBN grew out of a national Supports Broker Roundtable held at the Applied Self-Direction Conference on March 15, 2024. That roundtable brought together professionals from multiple states who work directly in support of self-direction. Participants shared common challenges, emerging practices, and a need for stronger peer connection.
Following that convening, and throughout 2025, the Alliance hosted additional virtual sessions, Across those discussions, one theme was dominant: disabled professionals working in this role must be centered, and must inform the development of the NSBN.
The NSBN’s priorities are based on the feedback and information shared as planning continued throughout 2025: Supports Brokers need a national space to connect with one another, a forum to share practical knowledge, and clarify the role within evolving self-direction systems
From that collective effort and shared commitment, the National Supports Broker Network formally developed.
Who We Are
The NSBN is led by disabled professional Supports Brokers and grounded in practitioner expertise. The network welcomes professionals who:
- Work directly as Supports Brokers*

Support individuals using self-direction with employer responsibilities and compliance

Help develop and sustain natural supports within community-based systems
* For the purposes of NSBN, a Supports Broker is defined as a professional role that is not legally employed by a fiscal intermediary, except when a person is using the agency with choice model as their intermediary.
Our Purpose
The NSBN exists to:
- Connect Supports Brokers nationwide
- Build and sustain a national community of practice
- Develop national standards for the Supports Broker role (not credentialing requirements)
- Create and facilitate education, mentoring, and training aligned with those standards

NSBN is in a foundational growth phase. We are building systems for connection, education, and role clarity while centering disabled professional leadership.
